These days, I’m loving Mondays.
If that’s not something to be thankful for, I really don’t know what is. Seriously, I’m one of those people who look forward to Monday mornings. And I work very hard at making my job something I love to do. Mondays mean new week, new challenges, doing a lot of the things I love to do and, by the way, someone is paying me to do it.
Make no mistake, I haven’t always loved Mondays. There were a few times (a few?) over the course of my career as a marketing professional that I couldn’t wait for Fridays to roll around, and Mondays were the stuff nightmares were made of. But I have found truth in the idea that you can and do lean more with every job. You learn about your vocation, you lean how best to interact with customers and coworkers, you learn to find and focus on the things in a job past the paycheck that will make it personally fulfilling.
I know a lot of people who won’t be getting rich anytime soon from they work they do, but who love doing the work. They love Mondays because they got past what a job should be and have gotten to what a career can be.
So here’s my grizzled veteran speak: I’ve discovered that there are three secrets to be truly happy in a job. The first, and most important, is your attitude. I know we’ve talked about attitude before and what an amazing effect a good attitude can have on our lives. Second is doing your very best to be the best at what you do. That means keep learning, because if you’re in a job for more than a day, chances are something will change. Is change scary and difficult, or challenging and exciting? Change is precisely what you make it, and that goes back to number one: attitude. Third is being thankful every day for being given the job you’ve got. Every day. Even the ones where you have a hard time remembering why it is you love what you do. Get those three things lined up and I guarantee all the rest – the bad bosses and the lousy shift and the crummy lunchroom coffee – will all pale by comparison.
Invariably you work in life to produce can you buy levitra over the counter something, from a widget to a great idea, for someone else. Take that one thing you do and plan to do it better than anyone else. Take real pride in your work and you’ll see what a difference it makes.
Often its hard work to love your work. Those people who do the hard work are described as people who have a passion about their jobs. What they bring to the party is an openness and willingness to find the best in everything they do. We all have that potential. So this week, make a point to make every day of work count for something beyond the paycheck. Learn something from it. There is something in every job that you can be personally proud of and honestly thankful for.
Besides. It’s Thankful Thursday. That means tomorrow’s Friday, and Monday is right around the corner.
