Every Girlfriend Trip needs a little bit of special – doing something that you can’t do anywhere else! A Girlfriend Getaway to Niagara-on-the-Lake is extra special because of The Shaw Festival!
We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing. George Bernard Shaw
I love that George Bernard Shaw quote – don’t you?! It reminds me that we need to keep having fun, doing things that are special, spending time with the people who are so important to us!
Actually, there is a double entendre in this quote! Maybe we grow old because we stop going to plays. Get it?!
I love live theatre! It aways inspires me to be creative and to look at things differently. It impresses me of the talents that we all have and the amazing actors that transport us to another place and time. And, it’s a wonderful experience to share with a friend on a girlfriend trip!
Recently I went on a girlfriend trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake and was thrilled to attend one of the best theatre festivals in the world! Thanks to the Shaw Festival for inviting us! Here’s the scoop on ShawFest!
The Shaw Festival is an annual theatre festival host plays in Niagara-on-the-Lake’s beautiful venues. They describe it as: “The Shaw Festival is a theatre company inspired by the work of Bernard Shaw. We produce plays from and about his era and contemporary plays that share Shaw’s provocative exploration of society and celebration of humanity.” Each year hundreds of thousands of people visit the town to witness this fabulous theatre event with an abundance of live performances from April to October. They produce 10 to 12 plays each season, with approximately 725 performances in four theatres, to audiences totalling about 250,000 people. Here’s the 2016 Season at The Shaw Festival:
- ALICE IN WONDERLAND
- A WOMAN OF NO IMPORTANCE
- SWEENEY TODD
- UNCLE VANYA
- “MASTER HAROLD” …AND THE BOYS
- THE ADVENTURES OF THE BLACK GIRL IN HER SEARCH FOR GOD
- OUR TOWN
- MRS WARREN’S PROFESSION
- THE DANCE OF DEATH
I love the theatre but don’t often go when it comes to my hometown. I love the idea of women going to a play together when we’re on a girlfriend trip. It’s just something magical to experience together and the Shaw Festival (aka: Shaw Fest) is a wonderful opportunity to see amazing theater in a beautiful place! The actors were fabulous and the whole experience was great! (They should – or maybe do?! – have their own Tony Awards!)
Here are some images from the play we saw ENGAGED:
Thanks again to the Shaw Festival for inviting us and for this special experience!
