My best times are with my Best Friends! I love spending time together, exploring, and especially traveling. So, we’ve got more great insights into taking an awesome Girlfriend Getaway to nearby Canada – Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
A journey is best measures in FRIENDS than in miles. Tim Cahill
I recently went there on a girlfriend trip and have so much to share about this great destination for women’s travel (ok – and travel with families, couples, etc.!). Thanks to these restaurants and activities for hosting us!
RESTAURANTS in Niagara-on-the-Lake have to be GOOD. It’s such a beautiful place that people expect everything to be perfect – and it is! We loved …
ZEES GRILL IN NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE – it is a PERFECT place for a pre- or post-theatre meal or drink. Located on the main street and easily walkable to the Shaw Festival Theatres (and shopping, etc.), Zees Grill is comfortable and classy at the same time. We loved dining on the umbrella-covered patio surrounded by amazingly colorful gardens, but loved that there is an indoor dining room that is just as lovely, along with a friendly bar that serves yummy drinks! Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive. He was very helpful in answering questions and making recommendations for food and wine. Zees Grill is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. It is located at 92 Picton Street, as part of the Shaw Club Hotel.
We were there before going to the play and were up for some wonderful treats! The appetizers were hard to select just one or two – and were so good that I ate half of the delicious crab cakes before snapping a photo (a hungry blogger error – sorry!). For the main course, I had the Beef Striploin served over yummy, YUMMY Blue Cheese Scalloped Potatoes. WOW! So good! The wine selection is impressive as are their signature specialty drinks. There were so many delicious options – I hope to go back again!! More info on Zees Grill online!
Thanks Zees Grill for the perfect dinner for our pre-theatre (Shaw Festival) evening in Niagara-on-the-Lake!
Zoom Leisure Bikes offers a host of tours and options. You can just rent bikes and go on your own (they have a variety of bike styles), or you can opt for a tour with a local knowledgeable guide. They’ll create custom tours and offer a ‘Craft Beer and Winery Tour,’ a ‘Picnic Wine Tour,’ or the ‘Afternoon Wine Tour.’ We opted for the Afternoon Wine Tour and were so pleased to spend a beautiful day in wine country on bikes with nice people going from winery to winery!
Zoom Leisure arranges for tastings at each of the wineries visited. We went to five during the 3.5 hour tour (which tells you that they’re not too far away – you don’t need to be a professional biker/athlete to take this tour!) It was especially fun to be escorted by the guide and have the tastings pre-arranged. In one of them, we received a wine and artisan cheese pairing tasting in a private area just for us on the Zoom Leisure tour! So fun! (All tastings were included in the tour package.)
Zoom Leisure anticipates your needs on their bike tours! We were given water and a light snack to take with us. Any wines purchased on the tour were picked up and delivered back to the Zoom Leisure office so we didn’t have to worry about carrying them back with us. And, they’re equipped to come get anyone or any bike that need assistance.
Completely stress-free and totally enjoyable, I look forward to returning to Niagara-on-the-Lake with my girlfriends to take another Zoom Leisure tour! What a perfect way to spend a beautiful day in Canada’s wine country! Check out Zoom Leisure if you’re in Niagara-on-the-Lake – you’ll love it!
TIARA RESTAURANT is located in the Queen’s Landing in historic Niagara-on-the-Lake Harbour was a wonderful find for our girlfriend lunch. We met a friend there and enjoyed the beautiful setting and yummy meal in this premier restaurant! The setting for panoramic views could not be any more spectacular – the inside dining room features tiered seating so that everyone can experience the view over the Niagara River Harbour. The Queen’s Landing outdoor patio is THE place to be on a lovely day – perfect for cocktail sipping, girlfriend conversations, and boat watching!
Tiara serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, Sunday Brunch – pretty much any time you’re hungry for wonderful food and a beautiful dining experience. (I bet the Sunday brunch is FABulous!) They also create special menus for Christmas Day and New Years Eve/Day. (I would love to see the winter there from their panoramic dining room!) From Niagara-on-the-Lake wines to local farm-grown vegetables, Tiara’s chef has made a commitment to guaranteed fresh dining – and the truth is in the tasting!
As we were there for lunch with a girlfriend, we all chose a different gourmet sandwich. The local, fresh ingredients do make a difference – we all loved our lunches!
Thanks TIARA for hosting us and for providing a beautiful, tasty lunch for our girlfriend trip. Awesome place and I look forward to coming back and experiencing the patio myself!
THE OLDE ANGEL INN – Is a great casual pub for lunch, dinner, drinks and live music. Oh, and ghosts!
The travel brochure says it best: “Clustered together LIKE GOOD FRIENDS, the Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries are perfectly situated for a day of tasting, with a stop for lunch at one of several excellent estate restaurants.” Clustered together LIKE GOOD FRIENDS … is a great way to describe the winery buy tramadol no perscription region in Niagara-on-the-Lake. As the Zoom Leisure Bike/Wine tour above shared, it was easy to hit five wineries and bike to them in less than four hours. Finding your way around wine country is easy with a map and an adventurous friend by your side! (NOTE: The amount of wine served at a wine tasting is generally less than four ounces so you’re not over-consuming!)
The Niagara-on-the-Lake winery region hosts 37 wineries. Nearby regions in the Niagara Peninsula include dozens more. There are so many wineries, farm-to-table restaurants, and nice people along the way – you’re going to need to plan for several days!
While we were there, over the course of four days, we visited 21 wineries! Like FRIENDS, each winery with their own personality and style! From making small talk with vintners in a tiny farm tasting room, to large beautiful tastings areas inside or outside in the beautiful fields of grapes in every direction, every winery is welcoming! Like with friends, it is hard to just choose one or two but for the sake of not having a 30,000-word blog post, here are a few of our favorites, (but you really can’t go wrong just stopping at wineries you just discover driving around the Niagara Peninsula!):
Ravine Vineyards – Is welcoming, wonderful and fun. Their hand-crafted, small-batch wines are beautiful and organic. Their farm-to-table cuisine is wildly popular – so make a reservation ahead of time to experience their wines with a wonderful meal!
Small Talk Winery and Shiny Apple Cider – is a quirky boutique winery with a sense of humor! This family-run winery is very welcoming and fun to visit. We loved their creative labels featuring funny honest small talk.
Reif Estate Winery – welcomed us on the Zoom Leisure bike tour. We were served a wonderful wine and cheese pairing in a beautiful private tasting room. They’re known for one of the most sophisticated, educational tasting room experiences in Niagara, complete with themed flights, blind tastings, food pairings and a sensory wine garden. (Plus it was great wine! We bought several bottles.)
Disclaimer: I received complimentary meals by the restaurant and the tour mentioned here in exchange for an honest review during a recent visit. My opinions are my own and were not influenced by the freebies. I only share what I would honestly tell my girlfriends! I wish I could take you all there to eat and bike through wine country!
