Who do you trust for advice – like on working out and what should or shouldn’t eat before hand? How about a Girlfriend Guru who knows health and fitness?

Health and Wellness Girlfriend guru LISA MCDANIEL BROWN shares her fabulous fitness advice on what to eat before working out. And, on our BlogTalkRadio show TOMORROW (April 6 – 2-2:30pm ET), she’ll share great fitness advice like:

Pre-Workout — What to eat, what to eat??

If you’re like me girlfriend, you spend a lot of time thinking about food. Mainly I think about food because I want to be sure I’m eating the right foods at the right time to keep my body operating properly … and happily. And that includes eating what my body needs before a workout.

Sorry to bring up “working out” but did you realize “bikini season” is right around the corner? Or as my best girlfriend, Leslie, likes to call it, “swimsuit with a cover-up season.”

Since I’m not an athlete, but just a girl who wants to keep myself in decent shape and prevent a few body parts from heading south too soon, I don’t stress much over what to eat before a workout as long as I know I have enough fuel to sustain me.

Recently I started eating vegetarian with very little dairy. This works well for me but I wouldn’t suggest it for everyone. It’s truly up to you to experiment, listen to your body and do what’s best for you and your lifestyle.

Yet, when choosing food before a workout, there are a few things to keep in mind. You always want to move more and eat less so you’re burning more calories than you are consuming, so I suggest following this basic rule — find out what works best for you and do that for your body!

Eating one to two hours before a workout works well for most – as long as you’re eating something that is easy to digest.

Here are my top three favorite pre-workout snacks:

1. Fruit and a few nuts – A simple sugar that’s digested easily will help kick start your workout, such as an orange, banana or apple. Plus a few almonds.

2. Whole grain cereal with milk – I could eat cereal all day. Unsweetened Almond Milk has replaced soy milk in my heart — love the taste!

3. Hard-boiled eggs filled with hummus – hummus is an everyday part of my life. Roasted red pepper hummus is particularly tasty in this snack.

Remember, the most important part of your pre workout routine – is to do what you need to do to actually get to the workout! How many times have you gotten dressed in workout attire only to get busy with stuff around the house, your cell phone, errands, kids, life, and the next thing you know you’ve spent the day in comfy yoga pants and a t-shirt, but didn’t break a sweat?
